So What Is A Micro Needle Roller?!

If you follow me on Snapchat (username: jenna_boron OR screen shot my snapcode on my sidebar) then you’ve probably seen the photos of my cute little turquoise micro needle roller. I’ve had a bunch of people snap-message me for the low-down so today I’m here to spill the deets.

So what is it?

It’s essentially just a miniature paint roller with tiny little baby needles all over it. You can purchase these in different lengths depending on where you plan to use it. I bought the 0.5mm micro needle roller to use on my face (forehead, cheeks, around the eyes, chin) and my neck. If you plan to use one of these for scars, cellulite, and stretch marks, you’ll need to get one that is greater than 0.5mm in order for it to be effective. I haven’t been down that road yet but I’ll let you know how it works if I do.

How do you use it?

Wash and dry your face thoroughly before using the micro needle roller. Make sure that the roller has been cleaned with rubbing alcohol between every use. You don’t want any infections!

Go over each targeted area vertically, horizontally, and diagonally with light pressure. This should not hurt! Apply your lotions/oils immediately after use.

How often?

Once a week to a few times a week. Everyone is different. Pay attention to how your skin reacts and that should give you your answer.

What are the benefits?

Micro-needling promotes the production of natural collagen and elastin which tightens and thickens the skin. This helps to prevent fine lines and wrinkles and improves the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks. Micro needle rollers penetrate the skin and allow skincare products to absorb better. It also helps with reducing hyperpigmentation and brightens the skin.

What are the risks?

Infection, irritation, redness, and inflammation. Don’t use when or if you have any acne because you can spread bacteria.

Have I noticed a difference in my skin?

Not yet, HOWEVER, I am a firm believer and lover of my dermaroller now. It all just makes sense, ya know? Since I am a skincare freak, I am hopeful that this will prevent my ever-dreaded wrinkles from happening in my future. Whatever it takes, guys!

Let me know if you guys have had any personal experience with dermarolling — do you love it / hate it? What were your results?!
