True Life: NYC kicked my BUTT.
I feel like I was just hit by train. As I lay in my bed resting for night shift tonight (womp- back to reality) I’m finding it hard to move elsewhere because I am completely wiped out from going, going, going for 4 days. I made a joke to my friend’s sister Caitlin, and she responded with “It’s not Ebola, Jenna… it’s just the City’s power”. So FOR REAL, major props to all of you who live in NYC– I have not a clue how you handle the hustle & bustle day in and day out and still manage to have kick-ass careers & happy hours with friends 5 days a week… #bosses
So I’m going to give you my a little taste (pun intended) of my trip’s itinerary. I’m telling you guys, A LOT of eating was involved so no judging. The food was probably my favorite part (hence the mini-pot belly I acquired)… & another True Life: I am somewhat depressed to come back to mediocre restaurants in Pittsburgh. They just don’t compare.
Where to Eat in NYC:
(I encourage you to peep the menus even if you have no plans to visit NYC!)
Jack’s Wife Freda: this brunch spot was too good. Fresh cantaloupe juice mimosas? I think so. Not to mention I sat right next to Chrissy Teigen at the bar while waiting for our table.
Supper: I went to this adorable Italian restaurant in May and had to come back for more. Their bread & bean dip, mozzarella di bufala app, chicken parm, & noodle dishes are all to die.
Jacob’s Pickles: I could go on and on about this southern brunch. You CANNOT miss it. No pictures will do it’s justice. The environment is so unique– loud, big wooden cafeteria tables, chubby chefs running out hearty soul food– but the cocktails & food are even better. I am drooling thinking about the chicken & pancakes. You gotta try their pickles too (duh!)
Rabbithole: we stopped in for brunch before roaming Williamsburg. Their eggs benny & stuffed french toast were nothing short of on point.
Blue Bottle Coffee: best. dose. of caffeine. ever. The Cafe Latte was so super smooth and delectable. There are a few locations but we stopped in on Berry Street in Williamsburg to warm up.
Lucy’s Cantina: we were struggling to find a place to drink & eat before the Knicks vs. Cavs game in Madison Square Garden. Apparently that area is not known for their food but Lucy’s skirt steak tacos & guava margarita pitchers did a damn good job of giving us what we wanted to be– happy, full & tipsy.
Shake Shack: this place has life-changing burgers!! Don’t miss it- tons of locations (even outside of NY)
The Smith: cute environment, great cocktails & food.
Clinton Street Baking Company: …the pancakes.
Doughnut Plant: I must say, I was a little disappointed. I had been wanting to drop into Doughnut Plant for forever now and finally got my chance on our way out of the city. The donuts are super unique so it’s worth a visit just to see & try for yourself.
Where to Go:
Soho: shopping, shopping, & more shopping.
Chelsea Market: this indoor market was one of my absolute favorites to browse through. It has tons of pop-up shops & food vendors (we wished we had saved room to eat more!)
Knicks vs. Cavs Game in Madison Square Garden: if you’re bringing a male companion, say no to shopping for just a night & let him see a game in MSG. Definitely enjoyable for both parties (& I know nothing about NBA!)
Williamsburg in Brooklyn: neatest little hipster town with tons of cool street art and vintage stores. Don’t miss the mini-mall & flea market. I snagged an awesome evil-eye bracelet by Eye of Ja.
Brooklyn Brewery: stop in while exploring Williamsburg. You could make an afternoon of it but we just had a few beers while casually sitting on barrels. Cool experience.
Radio City Music Hall: we saw the Rockette’s Christmas Spectacular which was ah-ma-zing as expected. Again, great for both male & female parties involved (Chad was superrrr into it haha).
Back to reality now, peeps. Hope you enjoyed reading about my adventure.
P.S.
