As you guys know, I’ve been into the whole intermittent fasting thing lately. If I have access to a blender at home, I’ve been breaking my fast with this packed green spirulina smoothie. I’m not the biggest fan of cleaning out the blender but I do love me a good shake so it’s worth it!
I started taking spirulina capsules probably about 6+ months ago and just recently decided to start popping a few of them into my smoothies. Pre-spirulina days, all of of my smoothies would end up looking a greyish/brown color. Definitely not the most appealing thing I could drink. By adding spirulina, it gives you that fresh green color that’ll have you feeling like you just walked out of a juice company.
So what’s the deal with spirulina? Supposedly:
+ it’s a superfood sourced from blue-green algae
+ contains lots of nutrients
+ boosts energy
+ low cal/carb
+ anti-inflammatory properties
+ detoxes heavy metals
+ antioxidant support
+ good for the heart
RECIPE
8-10 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk
3-4 spirulina capsules (opened & emptied)
1/2 banana
a big handful of fresh spinach
1 cup frozen fruit blend (I use the frozen strawberry, pineapple, grape blend)
small scoop of almond butter (if you like a nutty flavor)
