Today is my parent’s 35th anniversary!! I mean sheeeeez… it’s crrrrrazzzy to think of spending 35 years with just ONE person. But I guess like they say, when ya know, ya know.
Kath & Ed have set such a great example for what a marriage should look like for me and my sibs. Sometimes I really truly think our friends like them more than us. So after these 2 love birds got home from an afternoon of bike riding & lunching on the river, I sat them down to find out just how they did it…. here’s some of their little love tips:
>> “keep your sense of humor”
>> “stay young at heart”
>> “accept that as the wife you WILL buy the gifts & make all of the appointments”
>> “say good morning & goodbye every time you leave each other… you never know what could happen”
>> “know when to talk and when to listen…. know when to give advice and when not to”
>> “the saying goes ‘never go to bed mad’… we say ‘never go to bed mad after 2 days’ ” –LOL
>> “have lots of kids…. family first”
>> “give a forgiveness pass here and there” –mom “….like I gave you your whole life?!” –dad
>> “keep lots of friends in your life…. and always welcome new people into your life”
>> “walk through the hard times together”
>> “get tipsy every once in a while and become the flip-cup champion” –(i bet you can guess who said that if you know them)
>> “be the Griswolds” –our family refers to ourselves as the Griswolds (like the movie) we. are. dysfunctional.
>> “take vacations and go on adventures together”
>> “cut & dye each other’s hair when you go grey”
>> “go to the gym together… but then eat after…. stay healthy but indulge every once in a while”
>> “celebrate the simple things in life”
>> “let him watch his sports and let him play his golf”
>> “pop each other’s pimples”
>> “rub or scratch her head 365 days a year”
>> “surprise her with flowers”
>> “do things together… you have to or you’ll grow apart”
>> “don’t try to change each other… that’s impossible though haha”
>> “have a faith together”
>> “let him go on trips with his guys…and vice versa”
>> “always believe in santa claus” –(wait what? haha)
>> “eat her food even if her cooking sucks”
>> “never bring up the subject of weight”
>> “make the big decisions in life together”
>> “when you want to say something back… just smile, grin, & bear it… like yesterday when you were getting lost, and you went the long way…. I just shut up…”
>> “leave little love notes every once in a while”
>> “surprise her with chocolate candy……. fulfill her food cravings”
>> “do things for other people together… makes you feel good”
>> “know in your heart that you would do it all over again together”
>> “always look back on all of the memories… and you will feel blessed…. we’re lucky”
>> “laugh and laugh some more… because that’s what gets you through it… you’ll want to kill each other if not”
