The DDD Official Skin Care Routine

Something about graduating & getting a job was a harsh reality check that I was getting older.

…And so was my skin.

And there were far too many vodka-soda-double-limes to take back. (Sorry to pop your champagne bubble, but did you know that too many sippity-sips is one of the worst things we can do for our skin?) Dehydration = puffy, dry, redness, YUCK. No wonder why I avoid mirrors after a night out.

Hitting up Sephora is one of my favorite pit-stops in the mall. I like to keep it me, myself, and I when I go so that I can waste as much time as need to. I mean… WHY does everything have to be so aesthetically pleasing to the eye? Like “Sure, I’ll have this amazing bamboo style mascara tube, as well as that metallic purple Christmas-themed cheek highlighter… oh and I’ll take this new blush because the packaging is sleek black and it’s perfection, I NEED it…” (… #500DollarsLater #OOPS).

I love asking the employees for their personal suggestions. A few weeks ago I decided to get reaaaal in depth with an employee about skin care. I kid you not, I probably talked to this woman for a solid hour. But gosh was it worth it. She was SO knowledgable & her skin was freaking flawless at age 60. (shout out to “Mary Louis” wherever you are — you are legendary!) So after a while I cut to the chase and told her all I wanted to know is what SHE did to look so dang good. She spilled the deets & I’ve been religious ever since.

Guys…. serioussssssly, this works. I noticed a difference after just a few washes. My makeup goes on 300x easier and doesn’t appear as “cakey”. That is because my fine lines are smoothed out and my pores are baby-sized. I was worried about looking pale from exfoliating too much but that is what bronzer and self-tanner is for! (Even if it means you apply it more often).

Incorporating health & wellness rituals into your daily schedule may seem simple, but let’s face it…. how many times do we tell ourselves we’re going to do something but end up abandoning the idea of it after a week?? (Guilty).

So pick what’s important to you and stick with it. This year I’m focusing on realistic healthy habits. (BTW, I’m on day 10 of the 21 Day Fix and I feel SO GOOD- I’ll save that for a different post).

I am truly scared sh*tless of prematurely looking like a leathery old hag so skin care is on my definite daily list of to-dos.
