6 New Beauty Finds That I’ll Definitely Buy Again

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger, Jenna Boron of Balance and Chaos, shares 6 of her favorite beauty finds this May.

I have some major new beauty crushes this month that I’ve got to share with you guys! All of them are new to my beauty routine but I’ll definitely be re-purchasing them all!

1. DRYBAR WHIPPED DRY SHAMPOO FOAM

This stuff is literal MAGIC in a can. If you think regular dry shampoo is good, think again! The foam doesn’t leave any grit or residue in your hair and it definitely doesn’t leave you looking like a grandma with white roots. Oh and it smells so ridiculous — think: amber, coconut, and vanilla! Yum. Even my boyfriend complimented the scent…Maybe he’ll stop making fun of me for not washing my hair for 5+ days.

2. TULA EXFOLIATING TREATMENT MASK

More skincare recommendations for you guys! TULA’s line of products are made with probiotics and different superfoods… cool, huh? The probiotics apparently protect the skin from “bad” bacteria and help to balance the skin. This particular exfoliating mask has something called bentonite clay which helps to pull out impurities. It also has turmeric root, vitamin E, and Camellia seed oil which are good for inflammation and anti-aging.

3. MAC LIGHTFUL TINTED CREAMB

Before finding this product, I had used MAC Face & Body for years. I wanted a little more coverage than what that had to offer so I made the change to the tinted cream. And I love it! It’s not cakey or greasy and it has SPF 30!

4. LIPSENSE

Alright, guys…Lipsense is legit! If you haven’t heard or read about it yet, Lipsense is a long-lasting liquid lipstick that is waterproof, kiss proof, and smear proof. And IT REALLY IS. If you missed my Instagram video of me applying it for the first time, you can watch that here. I have the colors Pink Champagne (which is a day-time pink) and Bella (which is just a little darker) for reference. My cousin, Amanda, is a distributer and has insider details with tons of pictures and customer testimonials on her Facebook group. Be sure to follow it to get your hands on some Lipsense!

5. LUSH COSMETICS BODY CONDITIONER

I love to use Lush’s body conditioner all over but especially on my neck and chest area. It gives my neck and chest a healthy, silky, moisturized glow beneath my foundation. Plus the

6. IT COSMETICS BYE BYE UNDER EYE ILLUMINATION CONCELER

I can thank you guys for this beauty find! I reached out to my Instagram followers a few weeks ago for recommendations on under eye concealers and tons of you got back to me with Bye Bye Under Eye by It Cosmetics. And I am such a fan now, too! I didn’t know if I’d like the illumination or not but it’s perfect. It covers my dark circles better than any other product that I’ve tried and it highlights without looking like a raccoon. WILL buy again!

I’m definitely a sucker for anything oversized that can also be layered so I am all about this robe! How pretty is this maxi-length Navajo Caftan from Raga? I looooove that it’s floor-length. If it weren’t so long, it wouldn’t make such a statement. I’m excited to style it throughout the remainder of spring and into warmer summer months. I’d be lying if I didn’t already plan to wear this as a coverup with my new white one piece in Punta Cana this June.

My Favorite Graphic Tees That Aren’t Tacky

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger, Jenna Boron, shares her favorite graphic tees and band t-shirts that aren't super cheesy!

[ cage sandals | destroyed denim long shorts | graphic t-shirt dress ]

Graphic tees are tough. I mean, please raise your hand if you can’t stand the ones that read “GOOD VIBES ONLY” or “CARPE DIEM” in bold lettering or something of that nature. I know you know what I’m talking about! I definitely am guilty of having stacks on stacks of these cheesy kinds of t-shirts when I was growing up. Anyway — to each their own but that just isn’t my personal style. Basically what I’m saying is that if I’m going for the casual-cute-relaxed-tee-look, I don’t really want people to stop to READ my chest. Get me?

When I see a good band tee in stores, I always snag it because they are so far and few. I rounded up a bunch of my favorite graphic tees below for you guys!

Insta Round-Up

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style blogger, Jenna Boron of Balance & Chaos, highlights 4 of her most popular Instagram photos.

Hey, hey!

Just a quick Instagram round-up for you guys on this lovely Monday night.

Tile Print Kimono – Kimono’s are all the rage right now. I wore this tile print cape with a pair of denim shorts for drinks yesterday afternoon with my girlfriend. I also have this one on standby ready to wear on my tropical vacation next month!

Adidas NMDs – I STILL love these nude sneaks to wear for my on-the-go days.

NEVER Hoodie – I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again… If you don’t shop the men’s department, then you’re probably (definitely) missing out! I actually just hit up the Forever 21 men’s section today! I ordered this one in an XS for size reference.

Adidas Drop Crotch Joggers – Love these joggers so much for a casual, Sporty Spice look. I like to wear them with these all white tennis. Must I mention these pants are veryyyy comfortable! True to size.

Swimwear Round-Up For Summer 2017

Life & Personal Style Blogger from Pittsburgh shares favorite one piece and two piece bathing suits for Summer 2017

[ my new leaf print swimsuit: lace-up high-waist bottoms | halter top ]

Swimwear is on point right now for Summer 2017. I’ve been finding a ton of affordable, unique suits on ASOS. Did I mention I’m addicted to ASOS.com???? Probably. The $19/year premium shipping membership is WHERE IT’S AT!

This nude cutout one piece and this simple white suit came in the mail today. Loveeeee them both. Who else is taking advantage of the one-piece trend that is going on right now??? That means more room for margaritas, chips and salsa on vacation, right? June can’t come soon enough!

Skinni-Mini Spicy Pesto Shrimp & Zoodles

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger Jenna Boron shares a healthy alternative to noodles on her blog - Spicy Pesto & Shrimp Zoodles

Veggie noodles/zoodles are my JAM right now. I may or may not eat them for dinner just about every night of the week. If we’re Instagram friends, then you probably already know this if you watch my stories.

Spaghetti squash, zucchini noodles, repeat.

For some reason they just really do it for me. They fill me up and keep me satisfied. Lately I’ve been trying to add protein to them in different, yummy ways. Earlier in the week I made cheesy, garlicy, spinach and turkey bacon spaghetti squash boats. TO DIE. I’ll be sure to share that recipe another day. I also like to top my veggie noodles with ground turkey, sautéed spinach, onion, and my favorite marinara sauce.

This spicy, healthy little dish is what I’ve eaten the last 2 nights. It only takes about 15 minutes to make and it’s GOOD.

I hope you guys liked my morning commute playlist that I shared in my last post! I’m going to try to share more of those more often!

Okay, back to binge-watching Thirteen Reasons Why. I just finished Big Little Lies and loooooved it.

Playlist: My Morning Commute

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger Jenna Boron shares her morning commute playlist from Spotify

wearing: Onzie palm print leggings & Nike slip-ons ]

How I start my morning is usually a big predictor for how the rest of my day is going to play out.

For example, if I eat a heavy, “carby” brunch, it’s highly likely that I’m going to grab pizza or pad-thai for dinner (that’s typically my hangover recipe!!) If I wake up late and am rushing to get my butt out the door, then the rest of the day is probably not going to be the smoothest. I prefer to get up after 2 snoozes, slowly sip coffee #1, eat a light breakfast, and have time to make my bed. Making your bed is so HUGE. If you’ve never read the article on a Navy SEAL’s advice to grads, then you need to check it out! Here is the link.

With that being said, music is a huge part of my morning. I love to finish coffee (#2!) during my morning commute and listen to an on-point, feel good playlist. Nothing like a pre-work pump-up to start the day!

Here is a playlist that I created that I’ve been listening to lately…

A Very Casual Look + The Sweater That I Have in 3 Colors

The Winter to Spring transition is awkward, am I right?? I mean the Pittsburgh weather actually doesn’t know what it’s doing as of lately. Yesterday was so gorgeous outside but it’s supposed to snow tonight but then hit the 70s and almost 80s through the weekend. WHAT. Talk about making it damn-hard for the style-lover.

So a funny, quick side story. I traveled to Boston this weekend to visit the boo and for some reason I failed to pack boots, warm clothes, and A COAT for that matter. I actually have no clue what I was thinking (apparently not thinking) because I knew what I was in for. I had to switch my flight for snow storm purposes so OOPS. I hopped off the plains wearing my new white sneakers and a jean jacket looking like quite the imbecile. I was hopeful, ya know?

Moral of the story: ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER WHEN SHE TELLS YOU TO BRING A COAT (I can hear you evilly laughing right now, mom!)

This is a very casual look for the very awkward seasonal wardrobe transition. I love to layer pieces during this time of year for that reason. Nothing worse than sweating bullets or freezing your buns off because of unpredictable weather patterns.

I paired these high-waist girlfriend jeans with NMDs, a leather jacket, ball cap, and a light sweater. Let’s talk about this light sweater for a second. I have it in 3 different colors (this one, camel, and black) and it’s really just that good. It only comes in one size but it’s pretty oversized so OF COURSE I am a fan of it. P.S. it’s less than 30 bucks!!

EUCERIN! My Secret Inexpensive Night Cream

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger Jenna Boron shares her skin care beauty secret: EUCERIN as a night cream! I’m here tonight to let you in on my little night time skin care secret.

**Drum roll…**

EUCERIN. Not just regular Eucerin that you can find in the pump bottle but RICH, THICK-@$$ Eucerin that comes in the screw-off tub.

Let me start with a quick disclaimer: of course what works for my skin may not work for yours. This stuff isn’t meant to go on your face so if you break out easily, then maybe this isn’t for you. I, for one, did not. And oh P.S. – this is NOT sponsored content. It’s the real deal.

I started using Rich Creme Eucerin about a year ago and it’s been quite the discovery. I found this to be especially true when I was vacationing in Mexico last April. Typically, I don’t burn when I’m somewhere hot and tropical but peeling after the fact seems to be the pattern with my skin. I made sure to slab tons of Eucerin on my face, chest, and shoulders post beach-baking sessions and I never ended up peeling. After my realization that Eucerin is the bomb, I made it a habit to use it as my night cream. It’s superrrrr thick so I don’t suggest using it if you plan to apply makeup within 3 or so hours of putting it on your face. It really saved me in the harsh winter weather when the skin around my eyes usually tends to get pretty dry.

Oh and another plus factor – it’s totally inexpensive. Night creams can cost you a ridiculous amount of money so it’s definitely worth a shot.

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger Jenna Boron shares her skin care beauty secret: EUCERIN as a night cream!

Do you guys have any secret skin care products that you use? I got to talking about STRAWBERRY OIL at work the other day with one of our patients and I’m so interested. Fill me in if you know any of the details!

If I had to pick one garment from my wardrobe that I love the most, it would be a good JACKET. Jackets are the best. And I’m loving this longline bomber jacket for Spring. Jackets and bombers make a statement but they also can be layered and swapped with different jeans/shoes/tops to create different fun looks. Not to mention they hide any pudgy areas that have been added on temporarily (or maybe not temporarily?) during the winter season.

Let’s digress for a second and discuss THE WINTER PUDGE. Ugh. I just booked a trip to Punta Cana with Josh in June so I suppose it’s about time I start working on the summer bod! I always laugh when people say “summer bodies are made in the winter”. HA… I mean NO. I know I have some other HUMAN beings with me on this one. Winter bodies are made for cookies, carbs, holiday lattes, and wine. But that’s just me!!  Anyway – I’m looking for a new healthy diet and a workout regimen that isn’t boring. Preferably an at home workout? I’ve been looking into Blogilates but am skeptical. Has anyone tried this?? Email me any tips that you may have and love!

Back to the post. This particular longline bomber with white sneaks is very cas but I’ve also paired this bomber with an all black ribbed culotte co-ordinate set and booties to dress it up a bit. Not to mention it’s almost 40% off right now on ASOS.

Flat Mules For Spring – Shop The #TuesdayShoesday Trend Now!

Pittsburgh Life & Personal Style Blogger, Jenna Boron, wearing flat mules for Spring 2017

Tonight I’m sharing a round-up of my favorite flat mules for Spring. This trend hit a little while ago but I haven’t been able to partake because of the crappy weather over here on the East side. Bummer.

Now this fad is kind of funny to me. I mean flat, backless mules (like the ones pictured above) are serioussssly borderline GRANDMA SHOES! But they’re so IN right now and I’m on the train. I would have never ever guessed that I’d be trotting around in these babies even just a year ago.

What do you guys think? Hate or love?

Anyway — I am the MOST excited for my weekend plans because 5 of my close girlfriends from college are coming to Pittsburgh for a little visit!! There were 8 of us who lived in a house my senior year at Penn State and I can honestly say we never argued. Not kidding. We are all the no-drama type of gals so we all just clicked. It’s always the best when we all can get together again (minus the ridiculous hangover). Friday is so close I almost can taste it!

wearing: satin duster jacket (sold out | similar here), high-waisted black denim, band tee, pink tinted sunglasses, cross-body, black booties

Let’s talk about this amazing rose duster you guys.

A. It’s pink.

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THEY’D SEE THE DAY? Seeing myself in pink is just awkward so for the past…6 years??…I just didn’t go there. It’s funny how things change over the years. My childhood bedroom was actually painted an obnoxious, bright fuchsia color and I had a lime green bedspread to “match”. If that’s what you want to call it. Talk about overstimulating. I mean how did I sleep? Maybe that’s why I hate the color pink so much now. But pink is BACK. Pink is trending. And I fell into the fad. This duster is a verrrrry muted pink so I can handle it. Of course I paired it with all black everything else so it brought the femininity level down a few notches.

B. It’s from Missguided and lucky for you EVERYTHING is 50% off with the code GOBABE. I will link similar satin dusters below!

1, 2, 3 Turkey Pinwheels

Life and Personal Style blogger Jenna Boron of Balance & Chaos shares her healthy 1, 2, 3 Turkey Pinwheel Wraps recipe Life and Personal Style blogger Jenna Boron of Balance & Chaos shares her healthy 1, 2, 3 Turkey Pinwheel Wraps recipe Life and Personal Style blogger Jenna Boron of Balance & Chaos shares her healthy 1, 2, 3 Turkey Pinwheel Wraps recipeOh helloooo!

It’s been a hot min. since I’ve posted. I’ve been taking a care of a few important tech issues in the backend of my website so B&C can run smoother, faster, and be overall better for my readers! Priorities, ya know?

It’s also been another hot min. since I’ve shared FOOD on here. Yesterday I put up a big grocery haul on my Instagram story to show you guys how I’m trying my best to be healthy. The random 70 degree days in February gave me a little wake up call that Spring is coming and I no longer will be able to live in leggings and oversized tops.

So I pretty much spent my Friday in the kitchen. Exciting, right? But actually it’s pretty exciting to me! Cooking is therapeutic for me.

But how fun are these turkey pinwheels? I use the phrase “1, 2, 3” because they actually take 5 seconds to make!

1, 2, 3 TURKEY PINWHEELS

spinach wraps

neufchâtel cheese

craisins

light turkey

Take one spinach wrap and spread a thin, even layer of neufchâtel cheese on the entire wrap so that it touches the edges. On just half of the wrap, sprinkle raisins then place 2 layers of turkey. Roll from the “toppings” side to the neufchâtel cheese only side. Slice into pinwheels. Chill for 20 minutes.

You could probably get pretty creative with these and use all kinds of ingredients. Some additional ideas of mine: shredded chicken + hot sauce and bacon + chives. These are great for a party because you can make them beforehand. The longer they chill, the better!

Stay tuned for new beauty and wellness posts and I’m shooting with my girl Lex tomorrow for some winter-fall transition looks!

Have a great weekend!

Ginger Tea For Menstrual Cramps

Attn. ladies: Let’s dive into some small talk about THAT time of the month. Men… if you’re out there… you may as well dodge this post real quick because we know you probably get freaked out about periods. Or if you’re one hell of a man, you’ll read this and send it over to your suffering, squirming, fetal-positioned girlfriend/sister/friend.

With that being said… let’s disucss MENSTRUAL CRAMPS.

EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH.

Lit-er-ally WHYYYY?

Now I know some women are blessed with “easy”, short cycles with minimal cramping; but me on the other hand… well I’m convinced that I’m going to die every 28 days for the past 10 years. No worries — every 28 days I do live (surprise!), but the only way for me to NOT be hunched over like Quasimodo was to pop tons of ibuprofen around the clock. Being a nurse, I know that this is a big no-no but I had yet to find an alternative solution. This habit led to stomach issues but what’s a girl to do?!

Anyway, this post is for the ladies like me.

SO ABOUT GINGER TEA….

It’s no joke. I needed this concoction a long, long time ago.

With my new job, every Monday we have administrative days at the building that my boss owns which just so happens to be a wellness and conference center. The acupuncturist introduced me to ginger tea for menstrual cramps. I was immediately intrigued and more than ready to try it the next time satin came to town.

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE GINGER TEA

peel ginger

add 5 thin slices of ginger to 2 cups of boiling water

reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes

add lemon and honey if needed

A study from the Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine found that ginger was just as effective as ibuprofen for relief from painful period cramps. AMAZING. You can read more on this study and find out just exactly how ginger fights cramps here.

Take note that you should brew this tea with fresh ginger. You can buy ginger teas from the store but these won’t be nearly strong enough to battle your cramps!

So ladies — PLEASE feel free to leave your survival tips below. MUCH appreciated!

Why I Love My Himalayan Salt Lamp

I’m about to get somewhat zen on you guys so get ready!

If you follow my snaps or insta stories, you probably see me rolling around these little pink salt balls all the time. Josh’s mom got them for me for Christmas since I had been obsessing over her set every time we were at her house. With these, not only do I get the benefits of the himalayan salt lamp but they are also warm MASSAGE BALLS.

HOLY. MOLY. These reaaaally excite me.

Josh was a little nervous when he found out that his mom got these for me because I think he assumed I’d be asking for a salt ball rub down every day (hehe). But fortunately for him (and I), I can rub these on my back, hands, and feet myself and it still feels amazing. My dad was visiting the other day and I officially have him hooked!

I have my lamp/bowl/balls lit as SOON as I walk into my apartment.

BENEFITS OF HIMALAYAN SALT LAMPS

+ they cleanse the air by the power of hygroscopy

+ they reduce allergy symptoms — Himalayan pink salt is great for your airway!

+ they increase energy levels by generating negative ions

+ they reduce electromagnetic radiation (the stuff that flows from ALL of our electronic devices) — constant exposure to EM radiation can increase stress levels, lower immunity, and cause chronic fatigue

+ they improve sleep with their negative ions — positive ions in the air can reduce blood and oxygen supply to the brain which can result in a crappy sleep

+ they improve mood and concentration — another great benefit of the negative ions!

SHOP THE POST

Be sure to do your research before purchasing one of these because you want to make sure it’s a “real” Himalayan salt lamp. There are knock offs everywhere and you will not get any of the benefits that I touched on if its a phony.

I’m heading to Boston this weekend… LMK if you have any recommendations as far as brunch, dinner, must-see areas, shopping, etc. Looking forward to exploring a new city!

Hope everyone has a great Friday and I’ll talk with you guys next week!

Insta Round-Up

Here we are again for an Instagram round-up where I highlight 4 photos from my feed. Let’s get right to it:

Oversized Turtleneck – I scored this in THREE different colors thanks to my fellow stylish blogging friend, Payton, of Hustle & Halcyon. It’s a one size fits all kinda deal and it took about a week and a half to deliver but it was worth it! I have it in camel, white, and black. Did I mention it’s pretty dang cheap, too? Check it out here.

Graphic Tee & Wide Waist Belt – I love when I find a good graphic t-shirt because I feel like they are so hard to come across. Maybe it’s just me but I’m picky. I love this B&W one paired with a chunky waist belt. Unfortunately the belt shown in my IG got picked over but I found a similar one for you guys (I might even be more into this one). I have my eye on this graphic tee right now too and am a hot second from pulling the trigger.

Book – Maybe this is a little inappropriate and/or aggressive to post on here but it’s JUST a title (catchy, huh?!) Amazon describes this book like this: “There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.” This is a must-read in my eyes!

Chunky Choker – this accessory is quite the statement but so, so beautiful. It adds so much to just a simple outfit and I love that about it.

SHOP THE POST

That’s it for today! I have a longgggg to-do list for today. There’s something about crossing things off of a list that is so satisfying. Trying to start my Monday off strong.

Stay tuned for some Valentine’s Day-themed posts!

Playlist: Good Feels

It’s about time for a little playlist action, huh?! You can listen to my last one here. I’m going to be creating these on Spotify since I have a premium account but you all can still listen with the free app! You can find me on there using this link.

K, anyway. How is everyone’s week going??

I had to say goodbye to the boyfie on Sunday when he left for Boston so I had a mild case of the Monday blues. On Wednesday I slept through my work alarm and today I locked myself out of my apartment (I am NOTORIOUS for locking myself out of my car/apartment #SOS). I mean, WHAT is going on with me?! My parents always tell me to just “slow down”. It’s definitely something I need to learn to do. I’m always in a rush even when I don’t need to be??? Tips appreciated!

The end of the week has definitely been looking up, though. Between today and Friday, I have FOUR appointments booked. Dentist, nails, hair, and lashes. Talk about a HIT to my wallet. Next time I need to schedule my follow-ups more strategically. But I will say, I needed the “me time” and I feel good.

Side note: I’m probably going to be up for another 8 hours because I just finished a cup of coffee. Going to hit up Pinterest and add to my Spotify playlists in the meantime.

2 Game-Changing Skin Care Products For Glowy Skin

If you follow me on snapchat or watch my IG stories, it’s probably obvious that I’m veryyyy serious about my skin care regimen. Accidentally sleeping with my makeup on after a night of drinking is quite possibly one of my worst nightmares. Ok maybe I’m being dramatic (shocker) but seriously, I look forward to my little skin care routine at the end of the day. Nothing better than freeing the pores and having a fresh baby face!

I have a handful of trusted skin care products that I stick with and if you’re chasing that glowy, radiant skin look, then you NEED to give these 2 a whirl:

1. Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask – If there’s one face mask that I want to scoop up and eat, this one is it. Being that it’s formulated with minerals, vitamins C, E, B5, lemon, orange, and clementine extracts, you can imagine it smells ridiculous! This mask is a real game changer when it comes to smoothing, hydrating and brightening my skin. My co-worker (no joke) asked me the morning after using this mask what I did different with my skin. SOLD.

2. Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs, & Rosewater – I don’t want to remember a day living without this mist. It is that good and just 7 little dollars. I use it to spritz my face and neck after using a moisturizer, right before applying my foundation, and/or mid-day to re-hydrate and brighten my face. It immediately revitalizes the skin and gives me that healthy, dewy glow that I die for. SMELLS LIKE HEAVEN, TOO.
