If you like clothes and you like keeping up with the latest and greatest trends, you know that it’s not always so nice on your bank account. Remind me again why I moved out of my parents? Just kidding but kind of not.

I’m really not one to go for the big brand names. I can definitely live without a $1k purse, diamonds, or overpriced stilettos that I’ll probably scuff up after one night of vodka sodas and other shenanigans. Or no vodka sodas for that matter (I am clumsy). On the other hand, I don’t mind spending an extra buck (or 50) on skincare, makeup, and a good pair of denim.

So if you’re like me and you’re looking for budget-friendly options to stay looking cute, I’m here to help. These are a few of my favorite clearance sections and online shopping destinations to find affordable looks:

Urban Outfitters Online

I’ve learned the hard way with UO. I swear, any time that I’ve ever made a full priced purchase, I find it on clearance 1-2 weeks after. I don’t have the patience for their in-store sale rack and I think their online selection is better anyway. Always lots of good basics, sweaters, and comfy things.

Nordstrom Rack Online

Nordstrom Rack pretty much has it all. Again, I like their online selection much more than I do their in-store selection. Maybe because it’s too overwhelming in there. Great for anything from shoes to beauty products to home decor.

Nasty Gal

Nasty Gal always seems to have a good sale going on online. Right now, everything is discounted up to 80% off + 20% off select sale items. Some of their styles are a little off the wall but a lot of very trendy, cute pieces as well.

PrettyLittleThing

PrettyLittleThing is, in general, very affordable. It’s kind of like Forever 21 but a little bit better. Right now they’re having a 24 hour flash sale for 30% off everything. This happens often though so don’t fret.

Boohoo

Very similar to PrettyLittleThing. They have a 40% off everything sale right now as well.

Nordstrom Sale Online

I think a lot of people write off Nordstrom and label it as being above their budget but I beg to differ. There’s no doubt that some of the price tags in store read >$500, but you can definitely find affordable pieces if you know where to look. Nordstrom Sale online is the easiest way for me to maneuver in my opinion. Be sure to use the filters to sift through what you do and don’t want to see.

ASOS Outlet

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that ASOS is my jam. They carry so many brands and I noticed that they just started adding some home decor. That is super exciting if they’re planning to expand that department! Anyway, ASOS can be afforable but if you’re looking for steals, be sure to shop their “Outlet”.

Revolve

Revolve has all of the things that I WISH I could have. However, I can usually find a good discount on dresses, Free People styles, etc. within their sale tab. This takes some time and effort, but is so worth it!

Missguided

Missguided is trendy, edgy, and won’t break the bank. Beware: your order may take 2 weeks to land on your doorstep so don’t order for a last minute look.

Let me know where you love to shop for good deals. Share the love, please! And as promised on Instagram today, scroll through the slider below for my favorites from the Forever 21 50% off party.

BLACK POM BEANIE | RUST COLORED TOP | HIGH-WAIST BLACK DENIM | SUNNIES | WINTER BOOTS

Adding a pop of color into my wardrobe (or life for that matter) is something that does not happen very often. Did you know that they’re predicting Ultra Violet to be the color of the year? Not sure how I feel about that! Purple and black were my high school colors so by the time I was a senior, I was veryyy over seeing myself in purple.

How do you like to add pops of color into your style or home decor?

Everything You Need To Know About The 2018 Instagram Algorithm

Jenna Boron of life and personal style blog, Balance and Chaos, talks about the 2018 Instagram algorithm updates, how to boost engagement...

The Instagram algorithm can be a real big buzzkill for influencers, bloggers, and brands. For those of you who are like me and put a lot of energy into perfecting each and every post, seeing one perform poorly can be extremely frustrating.

So let’s rewind for a second.

What IS this so-called “algorithm”? Do you remember when Instagram (and Facebook) used to feature posts from your friends in chronological order? It was easy to log into the app and see what you missed or where you left off at. Now, when we we open these apps, we sometimes see posts from 2-3 days ago at the very top of our feed. This is a direct result of the dreaded Instagram algorithm. When a user posts on Instagram, it is only shown to 10% of his or her followers. If the post performs well with that 10%, then it will be pushed to the remaining 90%. How rude.

Why did Instagram implement an algorithm? Supposedly *eyeroll* Instagram thinks that the algorithm creates a better, more personalized user experience by predicting what THEY think YOU want to see. In my opinion, Instagram saw influencers making money on their platform, so they wanted a piece of the cake. Which is why it is now a pay to play space.

Why is learning the algorithm important? For bloggers like myself, studying and trying to keep up with the ever-changing Instagram algorithm is, unfortunately, very important. For those of you don’t understand why ‘likes’ and comments are important, let me break it down for you. I’ve seen so many articles, discussions, and opinions on how silly the world is today and how pathetic millennials live for social media followers and likes. While this may be the case for some, not so much bloggers who are trying to make a living. No, I am not thirsty for ‘likes’. No, ‘likes’ do not define me or boost my confidence. However, ‘likes’ + comments = engagement. And high engagement means your posts will be seen on Instagram. My Instagram is a direct bridge to my blog. Posting on Instagram is a way to let my followers know that I have something new on my website. Much of the traffic to Balance and Chaos comes from my IG, so it is important for me to stay up to date with the algorithm and beat it.

Here is what I learned about the 2018 Instagram algorithm:

CAPTIONS

While this is nothing new, you should try your best to make your captions as engaging as possible. Try asking a question. Get your followers to engage with your post. Long gone are the days when you could get away with a simple emoji or a one word caption. Somewhere in my research it also said that editing your caption within the first hour of posting will negatively affect it’s performance. So think it through and always draft it before publishing.

HASHTAGS

Hashtags are a great way for people outside of your following to see your posts. For a long time, I used to just copy and paste a set of 15+ hashtags from my notepad into the comment section of my post. The max number of hashtags Instagram lets you use is 30. This is now a thing of the past. Supposedly it is better to come up with just 5 or so unique hashtags and place them into your actual caption for the best performance. The algorithm doesn’t want you to repeat hashtags so get creative with each post and constantly change it up.  Try picking fairly popular, relevant hashtags without using a hashtag that is far too popular. If the hashtag is too popular, your post will get pushed too quickly and no one is going to see it.

COMMENTS

The algorithm wants to see that you are a real person who can engage with your followers. If someone comments on your post, it’s important to comment back within an hour. Also, any comments that are 3 words or less won’t help with your post’s performance. Instagram wants to see genuine thought-out comments or else it’s somewhat useless. Getting 2 comments with real sentences is better than 25 comments that read “CUTE!”

POST, DELETE, REPOST

If you think that your engagement will be better if you delete your post and then repost at another time, you’re probably wrong. Supposedly you will be punished if you’re someone who does this.

INSTAGRAM STORIES

Instagram Stories is super important right now too. Keep up with it and post your little heart out. Using hashtags, geotags, and tagging your location is a good for exposure. Try finding ways to get your followers to direct message you as well. Instagram likes when you get DMs and they see you respond promptly.

With all of that being said, it is definitely crucial to focus your energy on efforts outside of just Instagram (i.e. building your email list, more consistent blog posts, incorporating video, promoting your posts on Facebook, etc.) because who knows what the platform will become.

Jenna Boron of life and personal style blog, Balance and Chaos, shares a William's Sonoma Valentine's / Galentine's Day pink glitter donut recipe & Prosecco

I’m kicking off February with a super cute, v. girly Valentine’s Day post. You guys know that, in general, I am not so much into hearts, glitzy things, and pink.  BUT, Valentine’s Day is the one exception to revel in it all.  What better way than with some pink glitter DONUTS.

I must admit, even though I am obsessed with donuts, this was my very first time dabbling in making homemade baked donuts. The recipe definitely needs some work but the presentation was to-die. Right!?

The donuts and prosecco with pomegranates and champagne spheres are the perfect combo for your Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day parties, brunches, and get-togethers.

I promised you guys I would share the recipe and “how to” after posting all of this on Instagram so here we go:

DONUT INGREDIENTS:

3/4 cup sugar

2 cups flour

2 tbsp baking powder

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp salt

3/4 cup buttermilk

2 beaten eggs

2 tbsp melted butter

DIRECTIONS:

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt

Add beaten eggs and buttermilk to the dry ingredients above

Fill the donut pan cavities 1/2-3/4 way full

Bake for 8 minutes at 425 degrees

Let cool, ice, add edible glitter sprinkles

ICING:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp buttermilk

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1 drop of red food coloring

5 Beauty Products That I’m Loving Right Now

Jenna Boron of life and personal style blog, Balance and Chaos, shares 5 beauty products that she loves right now | Supergoop!, Aquis Hair Turbon, Dior Lash Primer, Patchology, Josie Maran

It’s been a minute since I shared some of my favorite beauty products. As we all know, I am your go-to product guinea pig so here are some of my more recent favorites:

Supergoop! – Supergoop! is a paraben-free, oxybenzone-free, synthetic fragrance-free, AND oil-free sunscreen. It’s colorless and super light so I don’t mind applying this under my makeup.  Wearing sunscreen is one of the best things you can do for your skin.

Diorshow Triple Volume Lash Primer – I was never a fan of lash primer until I mastered the art of using it. Do you find that using a primer leaves your lashes clumpy and chunky? I did too. Untillllll… I found out that the only way it worked for me is if I curl my lashes, apply the primer to the tips only, let it dry for 5 minutes (no less), re-curl, then apply mascara. Voila.

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter – This product is also paraben, sulfate, phthalate, and cruelty-free. Not to mention it actually feels like butter on your skin!

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops Makeup Priming and Highlighting Oil – I love wearing this by itself and mixing it with a liquid foundation for a lighter, tinted-moisturizer look.

Patchology Restoring Night Eye Gels – I have these on as I’m writing this and loveeee the cooling sensation. These patches contain retinol and peptide complexes, which speed up cell turnover and smooth fine lines. They also have arnica and cucumber in them which reduces inflammation and that “puffy” look.

15 Flannels + Plaid Tops You Need

HUDSON DISTRESSED FLANNEL | DISTRESSED DENIM | PATENT LEATHER BOOTIES

I am picky when it comes to flannels and plaid tops. Not just any flannel is going to work.  Sometimes they’re too long and tight around my hips, sometimes they’re too boxy and masculine, sometimes they’re too stiff and awkward. Feel me?

I’ve rounded up 15 plaid tops and flannels that passed the test (IMO, of course)…

Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Crust Buffalo Chicken Pizza

Jenna Boron of Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, shares a Low Carb Buffalo Chicken Pizza recipe using Trader Joe's Cauliflower Pizza CrustJenna Boron of Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, shares a Low Carb Buffalo Chicken Pizza recipe using Trader Joe's Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Using cauliflower as a substitute is one of my tried and true tricks when I’m trying to lay back on the carbs. All of the recipes that I’ve experimented with are so good (…mashed cauliflower, buffalo cauliflower wings, cauliflower fried rice). Have you ever tried to make a homemade cauliflower pizza crust from scratch though? It’s TRULY painful and never ends up as crunchy as I’d like it to be. Plus, I really don’t have time for all of that.

Let me start off by saying that this post is by no means sponsored. Let me also start off my saying that I nearly harassed the Trader Joe’s via telephone in order to find out when they’d be getting these frozen crusts in stock. Apparently they were a hot item at first and would sell out pretty much immediately. I don’t seem to have a problem getting my hands on them nowadays though. Thank god. LOL.

I posted this Buffalo Chicken Pizza on my Insta Story a couple of weeks ago and you guys were dying for me to share the recipe. You have to try it for yourself and let me know how it is! We loved it! You can also top these crusts with just about anything — I’ve done anything from a white pizza with garlic, cheese, and spinach to a standard pepperoni pizza.

INGREDIENTS

Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Trader Joe’s Organic Ranch Dressing

Boiled, shredded chicken

Hot sauce

Mozzarella cheese

Red onions, carmelized

INSTRUCTIONS

Bake the crust without toppings according to directions on the box. Cook the chicken (I chose to boil mine – I find it shreds better this way). Toss shredded chicken in hot sauce in a small bowl. Caramelize the red onions in olive oil in the meantime too. Once the crust is crisp, top with ranch, chicken mixture, caramelized onions, and cheese. Bake at 425 deg until cheese is melted.

Best Editing Apps For Your Instagram Feed

I’m constantly downloading, deleting, and searching for new editing apps for Instagram. Here’s a quick list of my favorites right now:

Glitché – This app is the one that gives you the trippy rainbow edges. To edit your picture, enter the app, choose a photo, click ‘CHNNLS’, and drag your finger over the area that you want to change.  There are so many wild effects that you work with in Glitché so this is a must have if you like to get creative on your feed.

Spark Video – You’ve probably been seeing a lot of bloggers and influencers uploading catchy little clips with appearing and disappearing text onto their Instagram stories. Spark Video makes it easy to create videos with text overlays right from your phone. Tip: with IG Stories becoming more popular than actually scrolling through a feed, it’s important to keep your Story fresh and exciting for your viewers.

InShot – I find myself using the InShot app very frequently. It’s great for rotating and resizing videos and photos to fit IG Stories and other dimension-specific places. You can also combine clips to create videos. It’s my favorite for speeding up, slowing down, and adjusting the lightness/contrast/warmth/saturation of a VIDEO without having to deal with Lightroom or iMovie.

Facetune – Facetune is still the sh*t solely for their ‘Whitening’ tool. If Facetune ever got discontinued, I’d probably be lost. I also like using Facetune’s ‘Details’ tool to make certain aspects of my photos pop.

Kirakira – For those of you who are living under a rock (or don’t have social media), Kirakira is the app that makes everything sparkle. Kirakira was probably one of the hottest apps of Christmas 2017. I mean, who DIDN’T upload a video of their glistening, decorated tree?

Capture – The Capture app lets you take a video screen shot. So basically it records whatever is on your screen and saves it as a video. I don’t use this one super often but it has come in handy for certain things that I have posted on IG Stories.

Darkroom – I lovvvve the Darkroom app.  I mainly use this app to pull certain colors from my photos. Example: I hate yellow and blue tones, so I always make sure to de-saturate them from all of my photos. There’s a ton of other helpful tools that you can use to edit within Darkroom, so don’t hesitate to download this gem.

Snapseed – I still have a lot to learn about the Snapseed app, but my followers have recommended this one to me time and time again. Too many apps, so little time!

VSCO – VSCO is my go-to destination for filters, sharpening, clarifying, adjusting skin tone, and adding grain to my photos. I try to stick with one or two of the same filters and roll with it to maintain a consistent feed. But that doesn’t mean I’m not editing on another app before or after VSCO.

That’s all for this post… let me know if I’m missing any download-worthy editing apps to keep my feed on it’s A-game! Happy Sunday!

Reflecting on 2017 + Are Resolutions BS?

Jenna Boron of Pittsburgh Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, reflects on 2017 and discusses resolutions...

If you read my last blog post on setting goals, you know that I’m trying to change my outlook on the new year and resolutions in general. The last 2 days, I’ve been watching and reading so many mixed reviews and opinions on this topic.

Do resolutions really work? Is it all a bunch of BS? Should we even bother with them?

I guess the answer is: to each their own.

I think there are definitely benefits to sitting down and creating yearly resolutions. If nothing else, it forces you to stop and reflect on the past year. Looking back can be healthy for growth and change.

A FLASHBACK ON MY YEAR

+ For anyone who doesn’t already know, I am also a nurse. I worked in pediatrics for 3.5 years but switched to plastic surgery in 2017. Switching jobs can be pretty stressful, but I was in need of a change!

+ The first of my friends got married. I rang in the new year by celebrating her and her hubby tying the knot.

+ I landed more paid campaigns in 2017 than ever before and had the chance to work with some really awesome brands. The cherry on top was my most recent collaboration with Cartier.

+ I was lucky enough to travel to Punta Cana on a partially-sponsored trip with Josh. Take us back, please!

+ Continued to learn lessons from living alone. To be completely transparent, living alone has made me realize how dependent I was on my parents. Embarrassing but the truth! I’m still learning the ins and outs of adulting but if possible, I think it’s so important to experience living alone even if it’s just for a short period of time.

+ Dealt with long distance. About a year ago, Josh got a call from his work that he had to move to Boston for an undetermined period of time.  Not to mention, he only had about 36 hours notice. WOOF! 5 months and hundreds of Facetimes later, I have him back in Pittsburgh! This experience definitely taught us a lot even though it was temporary.

+ Made new connections while keeping the old. Most of my girlfriends live outside of Pittsburgh but we’ve made a consistent effort to maintain these friendships. XOXO

+ Started a YouTube channel. Video content is so powerful that I just had to jump on the bandwagon. More to come in 2018 you guys!

+ Continued to turn Balance and Chaos from a passion into a career.  I have consistently created content every week while maintaining a full time job since May 2, 2014. Not everyone understands how much work goes into blogging but for this I am so, so proud of myself. Read my very first post here.  So different, right? B&C wouldn’t be where it is at today with you all so thank you, thank you, thank you!

Studies show “that when we publicize our goals, especially the ones that have to do with our identity, our goal-related performance is compromised”. With that being said, I will refrain from sharing my actual goals and resolutions on here in hopes that I will actually stick with them!

CHEERS TO 2018! It’s gonna be a good one!

Cartier + 2018 Goal Setting

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Cartier. All words and opinions are my own.

The new year is right around the corner which brings me to tonight’s topic of discussion…

GOAL SETTING.

I was talking with a friend a few weeks ago and was asked what my goals are for Balance & Chaos. Weirdly, after almost 4 years of blogging and such, I really didn’t have a clear cut answer. CRAZY. While I know goals aren’t always clear cut, they do need to be distinct and defined enough in order to execute a plan. How else can you measure success and growth?

Planning (in all aspects of life) has always been my biggest challenge.  I was always the one pulling all-nighters before an exam. Not to mention, I still have 70% of my Christmas shopping to finish. I kind of just avoid planning and function week by week… sometimes day by day. I love making lists but is that really a good form of planning? I mean, this is actually a hugeeee flaw for anyone who is trying to actually run a business/brand/successful blog.

Needless to say, the simple question of “what are your goals?” was a pretty big wake up call for me. Of course, I have always had a vision in my head for where I hope and dream to take B&C, but what exactly IS the bigger picture? You cant get from A to Z without all the other letters, ya know?

Jenna Boron of Pittsburgh Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, wearing Cartier Panthère watch and discussing goal setting for 2018 Jenna Boron of Pittsburgh Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, wearing Cartier Panthère watch and discussing goal setting for 2018 Jenna Boron of Pittsburgh Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, wearing Cartier Panthère watch and discussing goal setting for 2018Jenna Boron of Pittsburgh Life and Personal Style blog, Balance and Chaos, wearing Cartier Panthère watch and discussing goal setting for 2018

Pictured above, you can see that the iconic Panthère watch of the 80s is back and better than ever. The Panthère watch is not only timeless and stunning, but it “embodies a bold, free and fearless feminity”.

SO relevant to this post!

The new year is supposed to be about new beginnings, promises, resolutions and all of that cliche stuff. To be honest, I haven’t made any resolutions since I was a kid. My family would always write them down on paper and put it in a box to open when the time came around the next year. As I got older, I decided to write off the idea of new years resolutions because I felt that the idea was so corny. This year, I’m changing that. Maybe it is important and maybe I need to write down goals on paper and put it in a box because stagnancy is so, so bad.

As I plot for 2018, I came across this article on how to set goals that you can actually achieve. It had some really good points so I suggest you take a quick read. 2018 is inspiring me to fearlessly and boldly pursue my blogging dreams. Can’t wait, guys!

MAROON VINYL BIKER JACKET | BLACK AND WHITE VANS | SUPER FLATTERING HIGH WAIST BLACK DENIM | MY FAVORITE TURTLENECK SWEATER

It’s been a little while hasn’t it?

If you saw my Instagram post last night, you know that I’ve recently been facing some serious Bloggers Block.  Yep, BLOGGERS BLOCK.

For the last week or so, anytime I’ve tried to do anything (i.e. write, take an IG photo, try to find the perfect lighting, etc), it fails. Hitting the finish line to be able to press “Publish” or “Post” has been a struggle. I am somewhat of a perfectionist (Josh, I know you’re rolling your eyes right now LOL) so I get pretty frustrated when I’m not on my A-game with the blog.

Even my every day life has been “klutzier” than normal.  I’m laughing now, but I’ve shattered a full glass bottle of olive oil on my kitchen floor, knocked over a stand of ice cream cones at Giant Eagle, and broke all of the bulbs on one of my soft box lights in just a short span of 5 days. GREAT!!

Call this post pessimistic, but it’s real and it happens. Finding clear, focused head space to create content filled with pretty pictures and exciting stories isn’t always so easy.

But in the midst of feeling these negative feels, I thought what better way to get back into the groove of things than to write about my experience with Bloggers Block and what I (try to) do to shake it. Since many of you guys are bloggers too, I hope these tips help and most importantly, remind you that it’s totally normal to go through these phases!

Jenna Boron of life and personal style blog, Balance and Chaos, talks about her experience with bloggers block and 4 tips on how to shake it... | Winter 2017 AccessoryJenna Boron of life and personal style blog, Balance and Chaos, talks about her experience with bloggers block and 4 tips on how to shake it | VANS Old Skool

STEP 1: JUST STOP. Sometimes the best thing to do is to just stop. This is hard for me but Josh had to remind me of this yesterday. Stop trying to come up with something to write about, stop trying to desperately find an old photo in your gallery to post on Instagram, stop sitting in front of the computer with empty thoughts. Personally, I find that if I just surrender and take a solid break, my mojo will come back naturally once I’m calm, cool, and collected. Warning: this may take a few days or weeks. It’s totally okay!

STEP 2: LOG OUT OF SOCIAL MEDIA APPS AND TAKE A BREAK. We all know that Instagram has it’s way of portraying a false reality. When I’m going through a creative block, seeing other influencers’ hustle can be inspiring but it can also be frustrating if you start playing the comparison game. Read my old post for 4 tips to help you stop comparing + why collaboration has more value than competition.

STEP 3: DO SOMETHING ELSE. Doing things outside of the blogging world is always important but crucial if you’re experiencing a block. Get away from the blue light, I’m sure it’s so bad for us anyway.  Cook, read a book, go visit a friend or family member, sit in silence (I love doing this at the end of the night while rolling my feet on my Himalayan salt massage balls).

STEP 4: BRAINSTORM AND PLAN. This comes last and only after the worst has passed. Dramatic, right? Once I’m feeling more motivated and back in the game, I find it useful to write everything down on paper. There’s something about a hand-written list that helps me do my thing.

Why I Started a YouTube Channel

Hi you guys!

As many of you probably already know, I finally launched my YouTube channel!

Yup. I pulled the trigger.

I had been contemplating the idea of starting a channel for a very long time but kept procrastinating (…shocker). Last week felt right, though. So I set up shop in my bedroom and just went for it. With less than 3 minutes of planning my script, I said YOLO and pressed ‘record’. Due to my lack of planning, the editing process was PAINFUL. For real. You should see the cringe-worthy bloopers. Major props to full-time vloggers… it is NOT as easy as it looks.

With that being said, I wanted to share my reasons for starting my YouTube channel.

  1. I want you guys to see the real, exposed me. I feel like I’ve been hiding behind my computer and iPhone for almost 4 years now! YouTube not only seemed like the appropriate next step with blogging but the perfect opportunity to develop a deeper connection with those of you who have been following my journey.
  2. I needed to spice it up. Sure, my website will always take priority on my list, but why not add a new platform into the mix? Creating my channel and learning everything that comes along with it has been quite the challenge.  Stagnancy is no bueno. (tips welcomed!)
  3. I can get my point across better. Obviously, my website is strictly pictures and written words. YouTube opens the door to a different way of expressing myself. For example, in my most recent video, you can really SEE and HEAR how much I LOVE this WEN Body Treatment. Kind of embarrassing, right?
  4. More creative freedom. I’m super excited to start creating more video content. There are so many things that I can now do and/or show you all through video that I couldn’t do through my website. Plan on seeing more lifestyle, beauty, and recipes on my channel.

Everything You Need To Know About Pittsburgh Fresh + Discount Code

Pittsburgh Life and Personal Style Blogger Jenna Boron of Balance and Chaos reviews meal delivery service, Pittsburgh Fresh.

I’m jumping on B&C tonight to chat with you guys about Pittsburgh Fresh. The literal KEY to surviving the work week, saving time and energy, and staying on the healthy train. But really, Pittsburgh Fresh is where it’s at if you’re looking to eat right but without putting in any effort. We all know that meal prepping is one of the most important steps to success but that’s easier said than done, am I right?

Even though you all know that I love cooking, sometimes I just can’t get motivated to do so. Most likely, I just don’t feel like going to the grocery store to get the ingredients that I need so… I just don’t. But that leads to quick fixes and unhealthy choices. AKA major fail for the week.

So let me break it down for you… what exactly is Pittsburgh Fresh?

+ a meal delivery service (they also do catering FYI!)

+ meals just need heated (they are already fully cooked)

+ menu changes weekly (see a list of my favorite meals below)

+ all-natural

+ meals are never frozen

+ no preservatives, antibiotics, arsenic, or animal by-products (yuck)

+ everything is homemade (including sauces, stocks, and dressings)

+ most meals are gluten and dairy-free

+ they have Grab N’ Go Cafes (find a location near you here)

+ they can deliver your meals to 10+ facilities near you if you don’t opt for home delivery

Some of my favorite meals so far:

+ Grain-free Italian Wedding Soup

+ Smoked BBQ Chicken with Sweet Potato Casserole

+ Thai Chicken Butternut Squash Curry

+ Baked Frittata with Turkey Sausage

+ Thai Ground Beef Fried Rice

Check out their menu for this week here. I’m thinking the Black Bean Burger, Lentil Chili, and Apple Cranberry Salad **insert emoji tongue**

Halloween Looks For The Anti-Costume Girl

Jenna Boron of Balance and Chaos shares 9 tops and accessories that you need for Halloween if you are an anti-costume type chick like her...

Following up on my last post that had all mesh styles for your Halloween look with another themed-post. As mentioned many times before, I definitely not a big fan of dressing up in a costume. I’d rather just toss on a black top that I can wear again on a ‘regular day’ and maybe (key word: maybe) throw on some bunny ears and some heavy makeup. Call me boring but I just can’t get into it, guys! I do love me some Hocus Pocus, PSLs, and pumpkin patch action though!

I created a poll on Instagram (I LOVE the new poll feature) to find out if you guys like dressing up on Halloween or if it’s just me. The results were pretty much split down the middle between ‘JUST GIMME A MASK’ and ‘I GO ALL OUT’.  So that prompted me to curate a quick guide for the anti-costume, lazy girl. Any of these tops, tees, masks, and lipsticks are just the right amount of effort that someone like me can fathom putting into Halloween without being totally lame!

All Things Mesh For Halloween

Jenna Boron of Balance & Chaos shares her favorite MESH tops and dresses that you can pair with your YouTube makeup this Halloween

T-3 weeks until Halloween!

To be completely honest, I’m not super into the costume aspect of it. I feel like there’s 2 sides of the spectrum when it comes to Halloween. You’re either a “Halloween person”…or you’re just not.  I am the latter.

Fun fact: When I was in college, I tried to make a candy-themed Katy Perry “California Girls” costume and it lit-er-ally fell apart at a frat house. I had to change into one of my  guy friend’s shorts and t-shirt and was left wearing just tacky remnants of the costume. Mens clothing + a pink wig + stilletos = major costume FAIL. That was it for me.

With that being said, for those of you who aren’t into costumes either and plan to do some serious Halloween YouTube makeup instead, I gathered my favorite mesh tops and dresses for you. Mesh is perfect for Halloween in my opinion. Plus, you can totally wear these styles after the fact.
