A Pretty Little Beet Detox Smoothie

beet1

So now that I’m back in business & home from Bermuda (fake life), I definitely am in need of a little detox. I’ve been wanting to test out a beet smoothie for a while now so what better time to try than after going HAM on all-inclusive drinks & food for a week straight (…it was worth it). It was fun while it lasted but now it’s time to crack down, get back on track, & be nice to my insides.

I love smoothies because they’re quick & require barely any prep time. You can take them to-go or sip them slowly on a relaxing sun-shiney morning.

Just a little heads up– this beet smoothie is definitely “earthy” tasting. I don’t mind the flavor of beets so I’m okay with it- especially if I know I’m fueling my bod with the right stuff (beauty is pain, right?? Just kidding.. but sort of).

If you truly hate the beet flavor you can opt to add more potent fruits & jazz it up but I wanted to keep it as “raw” & healthy as possible with the least amount of sugar/carb-packed fruits (because beets are already high in those categories). Here is my rendition:

[ THE INGREDIENTS ]

+ 1 handful of ice cubes

+ 1/4 cup water

+ 1 medium peeled & chopped beet

+ juice from 1/2 to 1 whole lemon

+ 2 tsp fresh minced ginger

+ 1 chopped pink lady apple (with skins)

+ 1/2 cup spinach leaves

+ 1 handful of blueberries

+ 2 or so strawberries

+ 1/2 banana (optional for flavor)

*ingredients may need to be chopped finer if you don’t have a powerful blender*
